Hiking around Nauders am Reschenpass

More than 300 km of marked walking trails in and around Nauders am Reschenpass will lead you to the loveliest locations of the Tyrolean mountain summer. Easy walks along valleys, undemanding mountain hikes, strenuous treks, extreme mountain routes or climbing parties over crags and ice encourage you to enjoy your freedom in the mountains to the full.

And is there anything nicer than stopping off at one of the old mountain huts or refuges after an enjoyable tour and fortifying yourself with a hearty meal made from delicious local produce?

We have summarised the most attractive hikes below:

Nauderer Höhenweg (The Nauders High Path)

From the starting point at Bergkastel, follow the timber line along an incredibly beautiful panoramic path with gentle, barely perceptible gradients. Along the total length of 11 km as far as the Labaunalm, hikers can enjoy unique panoramas over all three countries.

Goldseen

The hike to the Goldseen (lakes) is highly recommended; two magnificent corrie lakes in a desolate alpine bowl with fascinating rock formations. The path leads through an ancient stone pine forest to an magnificent viewing point at the bottom of the alp.

Schwarzer See (The Black Lake)

The Schwarzer See at 1712m above sea level is a peaty lake and one of the Tyrol’s nature conservation areas. The Grosser Mutzkopf mountain towers majestically above the waters close to the Swiss frontier and these are the home of a rich variety of species. Water lilies flower on the banks, mallards and grey heron populate the lake. Spruces and stone pine forests, bilberry and cowberry bushes fringe the banks. From Nauders, the Schwarzer See can be reached via Riatsch along old cart tracks. The ascent, which is not too steep, leads onto a high plateau where the lake is located. Those who “just” want to walk round the lake can travel up to the Kleiner Mutzkopf  mountain by chairlift (off the road to the Engadine). It is about one hour’s walk from Nauders to the lake. Close by the Schwarzer See is the Grüner See (Green Lake) which is also a nature conservation site.

Der Plamorterboden

The Plamorterboden is an alpine bog with an ancient stone pine forest right on the frontier between the North and South Tyrol (Italy). It lies on the hiking trail to the South Tyrol, leading into the village of Reschen am Reschenstausee and then back to Nauders along the Via Claudia Augusta. Thanks to the cable car, the greater part of the hike is downhill or relatively flat. There are fascinating views towards the highest mountain in the South Tyrol, the Ortler (3,905m).

3-countries route through the fabulous Val D’uina:

Crossing from the Vinschgau (I) into the Engadine (CH): The starting point for the hike is Schlinig in the South Tyrol. From there, the trail takes you via the Sesvenna Hut and the Schlinig Pass (2,295m), down the smugglers’ track hewn out of the rock to the Unia Dadaint Alp and on to Sur En.   .

The high panoramic path to the three countries’ boundary stone

Trip from Nauders to the three countries boundary stone (just 2200 m), with views of the Ortler Massif, over to the Reschenstausee reservoir (both in the South Tyrol) and into the Swiss Engadine, going past peat bogs, lakes and over flower meadows.

Chair lift ascent to the Kleiner Mutzkopf, then via the Schwarzer See and the Grüner See, and from there following the path in the direction of the Grosser Mutzkopf to the three countries boundary stone.
